8 North Yorkshire Country pubs not to be missed!

1. Hambleton Inn, Sutton Bank, Thirsk. – A fine country ‘free house’ with a distinctly equine history. Positioned very close to the famous White Horse carving at Kilburn, The Hambleton Inn is a very welcoming venue thanks to hosts Paul and Tracy Cooper… and their roaring open fire! The pub is over 300 years old and boasts an award winning menu.

2. The Black Bull, East Marton, nr. Skipton – Owned by award winning chef Neil Butterworth, The Black Bull is sure to delight with a fantastic menu that can be enjoyed next to the open log fire – or outside on the beautiful terrace. Part of the historic Broughton Hall estate, the pub is set in thousands of acres of perfect Yorkshire countryside. The ‘Cassoulet’ is not to be missed!

3. Crab and Lobster, Topcliffe, nr. Thirsk – If fish is your thing it would be criminal to not experience the seafood pie here! A stunning looking pub with a traditional thatched roof and a real touch of elegance inside. You can pick from an extensive wine list to compliment the truly wonderful food. A real character venue you’ll be sure enjoy!

4. The General Tarleton, Ferensby, nr. Knaresborough. If you want to experience a decadent venue then The General Tarleton is a must. Immaculate presentation of food, staff and the overall venue is guaranteed. With the rich interior of the pub and the relaxed atmosphere in the conservatory it really is a fantastic venue no matter what time of year. Wonderful food, wonderful drinks.

5. The Windmill, Linton. – Plenty of oldy world charm to be had at the Windmill. Delightful food and a pretty views from the beer garden over the river and golf course. Watch your head on the lovely exposed beams inside!

6. The New Inn, Clapham. – A charming pub with exquisite art work, tapestries and dining area. The large majority of the food served here is sourced locally, infact, the cows grazing in the lush green fields surrounding the pub provide most of the milk and cream used on the menu! A delightful selection of beers and a warm welcome by the staff that you’ll find hard to match!

7. The Denison Arms, East Ayton, nr. Scarborough. – A charming pub in a charming village. Fantastic beers and home cooked food that’ll definitely leave you feeling full! The locally renowned Sunday roast that has people coming from miles around. Just a short walk from the picturesque River Derwent. A good honest country pub – make sure you bring your appetite!

8. The White Horse Inn, Ampleforth. – A warm welcome awaits from Tim and Karen Butler at the White Horse. Tim will provide the drinks while Karen works on the wonderful homemade food. You’ll find local produce and great beers in a wonderful setting. Exposed stonework in the dining room really makes for a warm rustic charm and there’s a couple of roaring open fires to warm yourself on a winters day.
